Manilla Bracelets. The Manilla was the most widely dispersed African money type from the 15th Century until 1948, when it was taken out of circulation. According to Opitz, in 1505 one manilla would purchase a large elephant tusk. There are many types of Manillas. They were traded by the Portuguese, Dutch, French and British.
